Radio and Television

In Germany there are a wide variety of radio and television programmes available to meet

everybody’s tastes. Unfortunately, there is not a huge choice of free English-speaking radio or television. If you subscribe to pay TV or digital TV, you will have more options, but these options cost more money. To check the possibilities of receiving English-speaking programmes in the town where you live, you should call your local cable company.

In Germany there are both public and private television networks. While private networks are responsible for their own funding, both public radio and public television are funded by the GEZ. These are fees that you are required to pay by law. Every household that owns a radio or television must register and pay these fees, otherwise you will be fined. These fees are not included in the price of cable TV, pay-TV or digital TV.
